Rotterdam faces enormous challenges when it comes to making sure the city remains liveable and sufficiently resilient against the consequences of climate change. Hence why showcasing the potential of modular green solutions fits well with their ambitions to seek for new solutions in greening the city.
At the local nursery of the municipality, we've placed 3 Urban Trees and a couple of plant zones with furniture, transforming the formerly unattractive square adjacent to the canteen into a vibrant and popular space for meetings, lunch or relaxation. Rain water is collected from the roof into a buffer below the surface and functions as the main source for irrigating the plants.
In addition, our sensors prove the potential of smart maintenance and irrigation in cities, as water usage is limited to a functional minimum and maintenance schedules can be adapted accordingly.
